I COMPLETELY understand! By ER

Let me tell you that I had to check the name and make sure I didn't write the message that you posted! I completely feel your pain. How long have you been teaching? This will be my third year. I am SO GLAD that I found| this website where others seem to go through what I do, because sometimes I think I would be LONG GONE from teaching if it weren't for the support that I am able to get here. Anyway, my school is also being renovated (since last summer). It's horrible. And really, it's only just begun. First of all, every teacher will be moved out of his or her room for approx. 3 weeks during the school | | year so that the room can be renovated. This means that we will be teaching in either the art room, music room, or library. Those teachers are on a cart and do not have a desk. The school looks like a tornado hit- no ceilings, dirt everywhere, etc. The principal decided to rearrange the classrooms too, since we all had to pack up our stuff anyway for renovations, which was a good idea, but now I am terrified to report back on the first day and see if my 73 boxes made it to my new room. We only have a few days to set up our rooms, and I don't even know if I will have my belongings. We're not allowed to go to school early because of the renovations. I understand the need for renovations, I really do, but why do I feel like it is done in the worst possible way?! I don't teach in the inner city, but I do teach in a rough area of the county, and I too am sick of substandard crap. The schools in the "nicer" areas (same county, same curriculum) have brand new Mac computers, while we have broken, old outdated computers. The radio talk show that you listened to also boils my blood because people are so ridiculous. God help the teacher who gets that person's child! I have said it before on this website, but I will say it again. People (kids and parents) need to remember that TEACHERS ARE PEOPLE TOO, who have EMOTIONS, FEELINGS, and who MAKE MISTAKES (sometimes big ones!). Teachers' feelings DO get hurt! Every teacher has a first year. Every teacher has bad days. And not every teacher is the same. Sometimes I wish that there could be a million teacher march (like the million man march), where teachers across the country just don't go to school for a week and travel to D.C. and just tells the public how it is until REAL changes are made- with the law and with the attitude of the general public. Of course, with our salaries, half of us couldn't afford to travel to the nation's capital! Anyway, sorry to vent so much, but your message got me going and it kills me sometimes to deal with this!
