performance
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
I work in one of those performance depressed schools. We are on something like academic probation (whatever they call it) so the state sent a "master teacher" to check us our and give us help in fixing our problems. The
guy spent two days touring our building and popping into classrooms to observe. He came into our room while my partner was teaching. I happened to be in doing some paperwork, so I secretly watched what was happening. My partner is one of the most gifted educators I have ever been privileged to know. She was teaching a language arts lesson. As she taught three different people came
to pull out students for various programs - ESL instruction, Reading Recovery and the medical clinic, rechecking for dental problems. She was left with a small guided reading group and a couple of additional students. She asked our visitor if he would like to listen to the extra students read. He was SOOOO uncomfortable doing that. (We found out later that he was a secondary school teacher!) Anyway, after spending his two days looking us over he left. That was last October. We never heard from him again. I wonder why? Could it be that he could find nothing else we could do to help these kids learn?
