Our district has adopted the Harcourt Storytown Reading Series. We have just been told that we are to have literacy centers up and running so that when an administrator walks through at any given moment, he or she can see see evidence that we are using all the componets of the program that our district has paid for. (Never mind that we have not even recieved all the componets yet and it's almost November!)

I teach second grade. I have never done centers before. I don't know how to manage it. Or how to set it up in a smallish classroom. Is there anyone out there with advice or a good system for setting them up, classroom management, grouping, assessing, etc.? I'm scared my kids will just think it's playtime. In the materials that have been provided so far are task cards that go with the weekly lesson and story. Some of the other materials are still on back order, but I think I have enough stuff to get started. I'm just feeling overwhelmed.
