We put our salt dough maps on cut box bottoms like you find for pop cans or can foods from the grocery store. Most of our children ride a bus to school so they transport easier this way. You have to open the box but they easily tape up. I also like the recipe that calls for a little oil. I had my husband punch holes in a piece of tin to mark the landforms of Idaho...lots of mountains, rivers, and lakes in Idaho...so that they could identify them quicker. I've tried having them punch through paper for landforms but that was tedious. After they roll out their dough I just go along and press the image onto the dough then they place a cut out of the state, matching points, and cut out the shape. Idaho's shape is unusual so they need the help. I have also had students do a "free hand" map which is great too. Sometimes I let them choose, depending on the time. We are doing ours this week!
