dumb question

This is going to seem like a dumb question, but what is DOD? People use abbreviations so much these days that it's hard to keep up with all of them. I think it would be exciting to teach overseas, even if only for a year. How do you go about applying for such a position? I am employed full-time as a teacher here in the U.S., but once my kids are out of my hair I may think of doing something like this. I'll drag my husband into it. He's a teacher, too.
