I was surprised to see all of these replies this morning. Thanks for your concern and ideas. I will use them.
Our school system is becoming more under the control of the central office. The principals now have a minor
role in transfers and hiring new teachers. Under the last administration the principals handled these jobs. It seems now they had rather not deal with transfers. This situation reminds me of the song "Hotel California" where no one is allowed to leave. The only choice teachers have is to resign and move to another school system. Many are doing just that!
Our principal was a teacher for
many years. Now she seems to treat teachers as students rather than colleagues. I had the awful experience of doing my student teaching with her for eight weeks. Each day was pure misery. I believe she enjoys making life miserable for people. This is how she maintained discipline in her classroom.
I am going to try some new teaching procedures and techniques this year. I have learned several from Harry Wong over the last few weeks. I plan on working hard to improve discipline and make my lessons more interesting this year. I know when I have done my best.
Thanks again! Ray
