I do a simple art project. I admit it is rather time consuming, but they are easy for the kids to do independently during centers, and they turn out cute! I give each student a copy of a plain white snake with just an eye drawn on. Then, they choose what color scales (construction paper) they want their snakes to have based on the snakes we learned about (orange, white, and black, or brown and black etc.) They then tear off small pieces of the construction paper and glue them on the snake in the pattern they chose, covering all of the white. These torn little pieces of construction paper feel like scales because they are rough. When they are finshed, they cut them out. Hope this makes sense!!!!!
