Custodians and others By jem

We often joke at our school that when our custodian retires, we are going to rename the school after him! But, honestly, we have been blessed with some of the best support staff around. Our custodian fills in on field trips,| goes out of his way to help out others. I know for a fact that he works more hours than he clocks in for..just because he wants to...the jobs could wait or be handed down to someone else. It gives him pleasure to see his efforts result in a great building. I used to worry about this and would fuss at him that he wasn't getting paid what he was due. He told me..." I have everthing |
| I need. I have my children close by. I have a home and food and all my needs are met. I do this because I like being here with you guys. I like working. " I never again mentioned it. Our teacher's aids, cafeteria personnel, secretary are all just as wonderful, too. They would all go above and beyond whenever the need arose..AND THEY HAVE!! I love my job and feel so thankful to work with them all! I think at my school those lines are so blurred as to who has "the authority"..Any given day, you can see the custodian, the principal, a teacher or two, eating lunch together...joking after school...walking for exercise around the building. I realize it is not the norm. It is not even that way on any other campus in our district. But I hope it continues at our school. I love them all!
