    As for where I get my words. I base them on what we are studying. For example: SCRATCH focuses on the AT family because we are studying short A.

    I began with the Patricia Cunningham book (month by month) but then decided to organize it and tailor it for what we do in first grade. So I begin with HANDS for a week. Then move onto SCRATCH. Then I spend 2 weeks doing short I - TRICKS and SPRING. From there I move onto short O. etc...

    I send home the "family activity" (not asking for it back) for the kids to shine for the parents.

    I actually built it into my centers. Mondays I intro the word for the week. When I into centers on Monday, it's perfect.
