respect and the need for hierarchy
By Anne

Clip to ScrapBook
I am glad to hear that you are respected enough that you would be asked if vacuuming windows would bother you. I was not talking about simple tasks, like emptying garbages. I was referring to major cleaning being done
(ex. vacuuming windows- loud and dusty), not being asked if it would bother you and being told it was more important than your prep time when you asked if it had to be done while you are trying to prep for the next day.
I was hoping this issue could be looked at from the big picture standpoint, not at the subjective, personal level. Many teachers feel that educators are not respected.
They express the view that teachers are treated in way that other professionals are never treated. Would an insurance agent, an engineer, a banker, attorney, etc. working in his/her office have to debate with the custodial staff his or her right to work in a quiet environment? Of course, the custodian would come in and do simple, quick tasks and make small talk, but would he/she even dream of performing a major cleaning task while the professional is working?
