"organizers and rubrics"
By Tabitha

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Carol,
This year I used a lot of rubrics to grade my students papers and it made my life a lot easier.
I thought about the standards and performance indicators that I wanted to teach and decided what it was that
I was looking for from my students. I used the number system of 5,4,3,2,1,0 for math. For my writing I break up what I am looking for into smaller lists. Ex. To get a 100 I had ten itmes listed that equaled 10 points each. Name on paper, complete sentences, proper heading, used vocabulary correctly, proper writing format, etc. Then I broke it down to each being worth 6 points if they
were incomplete or showed little effort.
I use graphic organizers mostly in reading, science, and social studies. Some that I use are the venn diagram, KWL chart, charater map etc. I found these very helpful and my students loved using them. They got a chance to see how they think and organize their own thoughts. I hope this helps you out.
