tests, tests, tests!
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
My fifth grade students are tested on stuff I didn't learn until I was in junior high school. The math is especially hard. Our kindergartners are learning stuff which has beent traditionally reserved for first grade: telling time, etc. Somebody somewhere along the way decided that we need to push the kids harder and faster. Then use state tests to prove that the harder we push, the better kids will do. The kids were also tested on stuff we didn't even have the resources for; they were asked a lot of computer usage questions, such as problem solving using Excel, and I only have one outdated computer in my classroom which wouldn't begin to help them with that.
