    here are some activities I have done

    we stack the words on top of each other ,using grid paper(half inch squares)

    lining up first letter,second letter ,third letter etc

    then we look at all the first letters;if all are identical,we cross out the entire column and move to the next column. if we then find that some letters are identical and some are not we stop and do abc order. If two are the same we say we "found twins" (circle them) if three letters are the same we say we found triplets etc

    I have also taught older kids to fold paper so that there is a box for each letter of the alphabet. once the paper is folded they label each box in order,with each box having one letter of the alphabet written at the top. then they sort their spelling words into the boxes
