The OP was asking for advice on whether or not to WALK in a strike that has already been called. She stated it was "sad - but seemingly necessary."

Striking is always difficult. But it is not always the teachers who are the ones to benefit. Some of the demands we have made have been for clean buildings, textbooks and supplies to be ready and available, etc. that directly affect the children. Striking is a very difficult thing to do and it is always hard. But in my district the parents have supported us by walking with us and bringing refreshments as well as going to the board. The students do get the required number of hours of instruction just as always although the schedule is changed. And we have been able to negotiate changes that have the students in mind.
