Repeating yourself
By GC

Clip to ScrapBook
Carol, I couldn't agree more. If children know you will say it again, why listen in the first place. I do listening exercises throughout the year. At the beginning of the year, I say things twice but as the children get used to the format, there is no repeat. If someone does not hear instructions, I get another child who has listened carefully to explain and then give them a small reward. By all means repeat what you are teaching in various ways, for reinforcement. We were told at college,"Tell them what you're going to tell them, then tell them, then tell them what you've told them." But try your best to instill good listening when it comes to instructions. Make sure your instructions are clear. That way you will save yourself a lot of frustration. GC
