I teach in an inner city setting and I must tell you that for it to work, structure it down to the minute. I know that goes against your instinct to let teachable moments happen, but these kids need structure that they do
not get at home. I have had great success with 4-block, but like I said I start it at exactly the same time everyday do working with words for the exact same amount of time etc... I do vary what we do to keep them interested but they know what will happen.
