Don't feel guilty By Cathy-Dee

I don't know about you but there are years where we earn our Summer time off. I think it's just as important for teachers to relax and get refreshed as it is for them to take courses, etc., But one doesn't have to be taking| courses or doing camps every summer. Is this one where you are teaching or working with kids or one where you are learning. I think if one wants to work with kids over the Summer that's great, but no one should feel guilty for saying no and just wanting time to themselves. Could you stretch the truth and tell her that you may be doing a trip during that time - or plan one tonight | | so it's being honest. Tell her you appreciate her opinion of you and that she offered you this opportunity, but that you really need this Summer off to reflect and re-energize for the upcoming year. (Or go on that trip) If you want to keep things on an even level with so many of the others - perhaps let her know you'd be willing to cover a week of the camp, but not the full three weeks. This way you are still contributing, but not having to give up all your time. Even if she says no, that it wouldn't work, at least she'd see that you were willing to compromise and help out a bit.
