How many weeks do U.S teachers get for summer holiday? I am in the U.K and we don't even finish until July 20th! We then have six weeks 'off'.

I usually spend the first week or so sorting out my classroom for a few hours
a day (before the sun comes out, IF it's going to make an appearance!). I spend longer if I'm moving rooms. I then do a bit of planning for the Autumn term to get myself together for those first few weeks back. I try to have at least two full weeks where I don't pick up a single thing do do with school. I read, go to the gym, swim, write letters and visit friends.

In the U.K they

are thinking about shortening our holidays. I think it's so important to come back to your new class fresh and rejuvenated, ready for a the new year.

Whatever you do, make the most of it - how many other professions are daily as intense as ours? Being solely responsible for 20-30 individuals is a demanding job - we deserve the long break!
