You're so right!

I guess you hit upon a very important point here. I was not really totally accepted by the principal because I was new, in spite of the fact that I have, as you put it, logged so much time in the trenches. I did not want
to join in on, and take sides in, the teachers' "group." I didn't want to be vocal like them, especially my first year. Every time one of them commented to me (expecting me to side with them, of course), I just bit my tongue and told them that they would probably understand that I was the junior member of the team and couldn't speak out as they could. Fortunately, they understood that.
That would have been professional suicide if I had spoken against the boss my first year. I know the office politics well. Sadly, too well. I just wish we could do our jobs and cut the pettiness out of the schools.
