Cafeteria Duty-----HELP

This is the first time I've been to this site and I was looking for the same thing you are. I also do cafeteria duty every day for our 2nd and third grade lunch period. We, too, have tried everything including playing classical
music. No luck. One of our major problems stems from the fact that our district is serviced by an outside for profit food service company. There big money maker is selling a wide variety of snacks daily, ranging from chips, etc to ice cream, Debbie cakes, ice tea(flavored) and so on. The children are only suppose to purchase snacks as they come out of the cafeteria line with

their lunch. However no one seems to keep this rule consistently ans we have children on free and reduced lunch buy 3 and 4 snacks a day. They eat the snack instead of lunch and all the wrapping etc make a mess. It causes for too much movement in the cafeteria, the kids get junked up on sugar and are out of control. I would love to know anyone's secret to a "normal" lunch period. I honestly don;t know how some of the kids eat with all the noise. Any ideas or policies used that are successful would be appreciated by me, too. I have been saying for the last three or four years that if I God forbid go to hell when I die- it will be an eternity as a cafeteria monitor!!!!!!! Let me know if you get any good ideas
