annoying parent By Allyson

I have a real problem with parents subbing or working as a TA on the grade level that there child is on. I guess there are always exceptions, but I am going on experiences that my co-workers and I have had. We have a parent| (a VERY nosy, gossipy parent!)that subs in our school that has been caught in other rooms (when not assigned to them)poking around. She has also subbed at her son's grade level in a different class. The teacher noticed that all of her running records and performance records/notes were rummaged through. The next week, she gets a call from a parent who is irrate because she heard from another |
| parent that her child wasn't at the same level as many others in the class. As it turns out, the running record "Snoopy" had looked at was an old one and the child was in fact doing fine. The teacher got it out of the parent where she had heard it from and the teacher confronted the sub. She told her that she was very upset that she had gone through her things and that since she was working there as a professional it was very wrong of her to disclose confidential academic information. The principal's reaction? Deal! We are short on subs! I think that you should talk to the parent. Communication is very important. I think that if this parent sees that you will approach her to talk things out, she may be less apt to pick on things that are petty.
