parents, kids, schools By Cathy-Dee

It boils down to the administration.I have taught in 4 schools, every one of them have had parents as teachers, TA's, etc., This year I have the Principal's daughter in my class and the grade 3 teacher's daughter as | well as our Native Liason Staff member's son. Along with 2 doctor's kids (what a handful). But.... we have set and structured guidelines. No one is favoured, if one of the kids I mentioned above is not following the rules, I will not hestitate to punish them or even send them to the office. I have full support of all my parents (including the professional ones). This is because | | through admininstration past and present an atmosphere is set where certain attitudes and behaviours simply will not be tolerated. And a lot has to do with supporting the teachers and ensuring all the students are treated fairly. Our parents do not have options - the next school is 40 km. away from our school. There is no bus service to the other schools so our parents who are staff would have to drive 20 minutes or so to one school, then back to our school. And then pick their kids up after school, etc., you can see the problems that would arise with this setting. I know I'm fortunate to have such a great staff to work with. There are great schools out there so sometimes it's worthwhile leaving a school like those described in some of the posts to find one that is better administered.
