I was offered a one year position as a 7th grade math teacher. I wanted to take it but felt that I need to ask my neice's permission first as I would have her as a student. I was quite honest with her and said that if she didn't want me to do it, I wouldn't. I let her know that there were plenty of other jobs I could get, so either was it was ok with me. We're very close and I can read her quite well. She didn't mind and it's not been a problem at all. It helps that she is and always has been a straight A student...the other students know how hard she works and know that her grades are because of that, not because of me.
