parents
By Michael

Clip to ScrapBook
I am currently the head coach of a middle school baseball team. I have had more problems with parents this year than I have throughout my entire playing AND coaching career. I have dealt with things such as parents becoming
upset when I wouldn't let their son play when he was suspended from school for sexal harassment. Or getting screamed at because I suspended a player for having bad grades. I'm not sure how your situations are but my experience is that the parents are trying to live their athletic failures through their children. They dreamed of being professional athletes and came up short. Now
they are trying to re-live those dreams through their children. And not only is this unfair to the coach who deals with parents yelling instructions to their children when they know absolutely nothing about the sport but the children cant enjoy the sport due to the unamaginable pressure put on them by the parents. I have an incredible AD and principal so I can pretty much tell the parents to "shut up" and go on with my business. As long as I am respectful I can be "mean" and that seems to get the point accross. My advice is simply lay down the law, stick to it and develop thick skin so these parents' comments dont bother you.
