complaining parents

Clip to ScrapBook
Nothing is worse then to have a teacher's child in your class. Being on both sides I have my own theories. I tell my parents each September that I will try and treat their child the way I hope my child's teacher is treating
them. Each September I pray that my children will get a teacher who is a parent themselves. I can not tell you how crazy it makes me to hear the young "I know-everything" make a statement such as "Can you believe that Suzie's paper had sauce stains on it." Well yes I can. I have been guilty of telling one of my cherubs, "Leave your homework on the counter, and I will check it as
soon as I finish making dinner, Well believe it or not the sauce gremlin spit sauce stains on the paper. I know that my day is not over at dismisal but has begun all over again. When little missy goes home to mom, who cooks her dinner, washes the clothes, and knows where the remote is, working moms are doing the millions of things that make the house run, not always smoothly but run. I have been known to tell an inflexible colleague one day you may be on the other side of the desk at parent teacher conferences. Try not to make an issue over a tissue. Please do not get me wrong, the parent should never have been given an appointment with the principal before speaking with you, and if the parent after speaking with you goes to the principal, you should be given an opportunity to state your position, and never should the principal promise to change a grade without your input.
When I taught Junior High and got the dummy report cards from the other subject teachers and noticed that because of one point a child would be kept off Honors, I would ask another teacher is there anyway to find that one extra point. Often they would be able to give the point, if they didn't I respected that. What ever happened to extra credit, or giving enough tests that you can drop the lowest grade. I am sorry to ramble and I hope I have not offended anyone, but this is how I feel.
