    K Buddy Books

We had K buddies last year. The teacher and I took turns every other week planning an activity. Usually, the format was: read a whole group book, do an activity based on it in our buddies, use any extra time to pick out a book and read together with our buddies. I always collected the activities. We kept a folder for each child in our room, where we would put the papers in the order that we did them. The papers were hole-punched and put in the brads of the folder. We glued a picture of the buddies together on the front. Since we met every other week, we shared the folder, which we called our "buddy book," in December and then again in May and gave it to them as a gift for the school year. Since your meeting every week, you could even do it at the end of each quarter. I really loved doing this and the kindergarteners loved their books. Usually we just spent about 20 minutes on one day getting the papers in the folder right before we down and shared them, so it didn't take up too much class time. This year, I am planning on making copies of the papers so the third graders have a book too. That will take a little more time on my part, but I think the third graders will love the books too.
