tested to death
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
Boy, Helen, do I know what you mean! You work in NC as my husband does. I am driving across the line to SC, but it's no different there. Same pressure on the kids. I feel so badly for them having to learn skills which
they are not developmentally ready for. Their math skills are horrible. Only two of my students passed the state test last year in math.

I think that in the years to come somebody should research these state tests. Follow a control group and an experimental group. One group which isn't tested to death, while the other learns with enjoyment without the pressures of state testing.

Maybe you can do this for us, Helen, after you retire? It would be an interesting study, wouldn't it, even though I know the politicians would never go for it. They are still convinced that 100% of accountability belongs to the teacher. What about student accountability? Parent accountability? Isn't the pie always aimed at the teacher's face?
