overwhelmed
By Helen

Clip to ScrapBook
Not only do I feel that my first graders are overwhelmed but I feel overwhelmed!!!!!. The paperwork is ridiculous. I have a class of "at risk" kids and should be teaching them to love reading and literature by doing the
fun things that I know how (making books and reading aloud stories, art work, murals..cooking etc. but our state has evolved from a child centered curriculum into a test driven state also and we are pushing to pass assessments in both math and literacy...and our principal insists that all students ( even those who are non-readers) take and pass AR tests every week, daily if possible. It
is killing "me" and I know it is killing their enthusiasm for learning. I see them shutting down!!!!! Bush have a clue??? I doubt it. Glad I am nearing retirement! i love teaching, I hate torturing my kids with more than they can handle and having to push them and noncaring parents too!
WHEW!!! Did I vent or what. Didn't mean to say so much, just really am frustrated.
