"thinking about leaving" By mary
|
| Wow Meg, have I ever been in your shoes! Think hard before you leave. You know the saying - the grass is always greener - until you get over that hill, then you might be facing a desert! I've been teaching for 17 years. My solution to the problem you describe is to change grade level and/or school site every 5 to 7 years. This has really worked for me. I do best in grades K through 2 so I roam through them all on a fairly regular basis. You didn't say much about your situation but, if I find myself on a staff that is all feeling negative, at the same time, I change school sites. Luckily I teach for a very large district so this hasn't been hard to do. The advice to take a nonclassroom position for a year, or to take a year off also sounds good. I haven't been able to tear myself away from the kids though! Good luck. Don't leave yet. Maybe all you really need to do is to take some time for yourself.
