More good suggestions, any might work. Finding a mentor to work with the child is another idea. This could be a volunteer, high school student, parent, grandparent, or staff member. All our office staff members have a child or two they work with during the day, our lead maintenance person is reading with one of my students. I have cross age buddy classes for activities/help and another older buddy class for discipline.
You might find out what motivate this child, his/her interests, and support those as you're able. Let us know what's worked...
