I do a name glyph after reading Kevin Henkes' book "Chrysanthemum". I have a teacher made page that has one circle, (the middle of the flower), petals, and leaves. Students write their name in the middle of the circle. They color a petal for each letter in their name, color a leaf for each vowel in their name. The petals are cut out and glued to the circle. I then give students a craft stick for each syllable in their name. They glue these together to make the stem, and glue the leaves to the stem. (Sometimes I hot glue the sticks if we don't have time for them to dry properly). I have bought some cheap florist styrofoam and made little "window boxes". Students stick their flowers in the boxes and it makes a great display.
