I spend 1 1/2 weeks on this in fifth grade

One day on each sense:

Sight = basic observations of a penny
Sound = hang a tarp as a booth and make noises inside for the students to observe
Touch = shoe boxes with holes in the side and things inside to observe by feel
Smell = put smelly things from the home under cotton balls in film canisters
Taste = have students taste sugar for sweet, salt for salt, lemon juice for sour, and unsweetened baking chocolate for bitter

The test in the following week is to make observations of an individually wrapped lifesaver using all five senses.
