scientific method By Julianne

Hi, As I read your post I was impressed by your girls' ideas. They really have some great thoughts. The one area I see as a problem for them is actually answering their question using the scientific method. They may be able to find the answer in a book, but to actually devise an experiment that would give them the answer will be much harder. And that is what your judges will most likely be looking for. The sequence should be: 1. Ask a question. (They did.) 2. Make a hypothesis. (How long do they think the heart rests?) 3. Devise an experiment to test your hypothesis. (Can they devise | | a way to actually measure the rest period?) 4. Collect your data and determine if you were right. 5. Revise your hypothesis to reflect your research. The girls should try to come up with their own experiment. If they have trouble you might suggest that they record heartbeats and then slow them down so the rest period is more pronounced.
