ESL

Clip to ScrapBook
I've taught younger kids who were ESL, basically I did the same type of program with them. I'm always amazed at how quick they start to pick up the language.

I'm wondering for this group if you might want to check into
some of the phonic tapes you can by (Rock and Roll Phonics types). I'm not sure what's out there anymore. But they could listen on headphones and read along with the book. Also read along books might be good too at a listening center. This would give them a chance to hear the language more.

Another option would be to have them paired with the stronger readers in your group. Having

the stronger readers read with them during the individual reading time. This would allow them to participate in the main activity but still have support when reading on their own.

With the plaid phonics - if you can swing it go for the coloured books - they are so much nicer than the black and white. Although I always like to order one black and white as it makes good testing material for each unit. (easier to photocopy).
