nerves By Cathy-Dee

Your cooperating teacher is correct when she says it's ok to be nervous. It is different when you have to be in front of anyone (even children) and then have to teach them something. I find that rehearsing my lesson the night before always helped a bit. You don't mention the grade level you are teaching, but if it is elementary especially grades K to 4, they will not notice your nervousness. I've been teaching now for 8 years and I even stumble over words and have "off" lessons. And when I have others in the room besides my kids I'm always a little more nervous about how I'm presenting my lesson. | | I think that's natural for most people. It will get easier with practice, by your next practicum you will feel more comfortable and when you get your own class. I think student teaching is always more difficult because you know you are being "marked" and "evaluated" so the pressure is there to perform well. So before your next lesson, take a deep breath, know that you are on your way to becoming a terrific teacher and plunge in. Don't worry whether it is perfect or not, you and your students will learn from it and that is what counts!
