taxation
By srw

Clip to ScrapBook
I did a similar thing to introduce "taxation without representation". Prior to my students coming in on a Monday, I placed "price lists" around the room. For example, 25 cents to sharpen a pencil, 10 cents to use the hall pass, etc. They got really into it and told me that it wasn't fair. We then had a discussion about it and how they felt. We then discussed the various taxes implemented during the Revolution time and compared how the colonists must have felt.

Also, School House Rocks, makes a great video that works as a wonderful intro to this unit. It reviews the colonization time and leads up to the Revolution.
