Sounds like my reading for middle grades class. I had to get a ton of preteen/teen novels. The purpose was so that we knew about what the kids we'd be teaching were reading. Also, gives you fun ideas for cross-curriculum| work. You allow the kids to read something they enjoy (reading doesn't have to be boring) and you can pull from it history lessons, art lessons, english lessons, spelling lessons, math lessons, science lessons. The class that I took was actually quite fun. Reminded me that reading isn't just all text and alot of teachers of preteens/teens tend to pull away from the idea that reading | | is fun and instead focus on text reading (BORING!!!) Thus we lose kids love for reading. Also, reading for literacy classes are becoming very important, and all teachers may be asked to teach it in one way or another. Something to think about.
