    Power Teaching

I found Power Teaching by watching YouTube also, and I love it! I am not sure about the point system (smilies and frownies), but I do love the attention-getters and teaching in small-chunks to have the kids teach their friends.

I teach a lot in a workshop setting, but I split my class with a teammate for Social Studies and Science and since we teach second grade it is a waste of time to have them read directly out of the book (too much worrying about reading instead of focusing on the lesson). So the kids have their text books open in front of them and we do picture walks and I summarize each page for them. I could see the chunks and teaching to friends working there. :)

I teach a bilingual 2nd grade class, so the class coming to me has already been together in their bilingual 1st grade class and I have heard that I have an unruly class coming up next year: on-top of their personalities, their teacher had her baby in December last year and decided to take the rest of the year off and they went through 4 long-term subs (because of scheduling conflicts for the subs) they just need a good, structured, routine driven classroom this year...I am hoping this will work for them.
