hallway transitions
By Sherrie

Clip to ScrapBook
I like to play simon says with the kids and they really like it too. Tell them that "there are secret people around the school who are watching us as we go down the hall and they like to give out stickers or other treats if we are quiet." We have a natural rule here at Grant Elementary that the students are required to walk in a FORMAL LINE. That means no talking and hands to yourself. They do pretty well since we walk by classrooms and the principal's office often. You could adopt it if you'd like. It's easier to say "Walk like a bunny being hunted" when they are kindergardners, but I don't think 3rd graders would appreciate that too much! I have found that teaching place value is VERY hard. Good luck!
