Accent-Positive experience
By Heather Sharif-Garcia

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Isabella-No one knows where I come from because of my accent. My father is Saudi-Arabian and mother is Swedish. I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia until I was 14 speaking arabic, french, and english. Then my parents
moved to Ireland because my father taught engineering courses and mom taught arabic and middle eastern studies at a local college in Ireland. I finished high school in London and decided to be a translator for Arabic and French. I was accepted at UCLA and went there to study foreign languages. At UCLA I met my husband who is Mexican-American from El Paso, Texas. I fell in love with
the Spanish language changed my major to Spanish and elementary education. I am know teaching at an inner city school and love it. The students understand me and speak English almost fluently. Because of my accent they understand the beauty of learning languages and how lucky they are to learn more than one language. Isabella go for that teaching job!!!!!
