Lisa,
Great, even though your program is set up different it sounds like it's made to be very beneficial to student teachers. In my program we do 2 practicum sessions (30 hours each) in different classrooms, I did 1st and 4th, and now I will start in the fall during the teacher inservice week as the beginning of my 12 week student teaching. Your friends unit sounds great I hope you made a copy of all of the materials. In my methods class we tried to trade the units that we designed (mine was Bugs - 3rd grade) any of them can be modified to fit grade level. I had to do a portfolio for my methods class too, email me and I will send you the links I found on them if you would like.
