    Student teaching in the fall

    Hi Kath,

I'll also be interning in the fall. Our set-up is kind of strange. We have a practicum required in which we have to spend 30 hours with the teacher during the time before school starts and on the first two days of school. The fall interns do that with our internship classrooms. Here in Polk County, Florida, that's the 2nd week of August!

Then we are in the college classroom for three weeks, doing an assessment class and one called Teaching in the Schools.

After that (Sept 10) we start our ten weeks in the classroom as official student teachers. I'll be doing 4th grade, and my teacher's supposed to be really good.

This summer I plan to work on my preservice portfolio (v. important) and collect lots of ideas, especially on classroom organization. Also hope to get together with my supervising teacher and find out what content I will be expected to teach so that I can start planning. One of this semester's 4th grade interns did a unit on sight and sound, and although I'm not a science fan it was SO COOL!

    Lisa
