I liked what I did... By ILuv2teachk

| My kiddos always made their D5 choices, first thing in the morning. I use a pocket chart to organize this. Anyway, when it came time to go to their D5 choice, anyone who chose Read to Someone went to a designated spot in the classroom. So, let's say 3 children were there. Together, they decided if two of them would go off and partner read and the third would read to our class mascot (a stuffed animal), or the three children would sit EEKK and read together. It worked beautifully every time! Most of the time, the 3 kids chose to read together. We did the Correct-Incorrect-Correct model for this, as one of our minilessons the first time this problem happened. The great things I noticed happening with 3 reading together, is two-fold. First, I noticed that a typically shy/quieter child would feel good about being included, ya know the "last one picked" kind of child. The other thing is that when 3 are together, it almost turned into a book-club type of reading. So they would read, but when one would say, "I heard you read..." the third child would chime in, as well, and it flowed nicely. Again, we modeled how the conversation would go. I will definitley do it the same way, this year. It's with first grade, by the way.
