Gobstopper Activity By scinerd

There is a gobstopper activity in Rising to the Challenge of the National Science Education Standards. It is a book put out by NSTA and I ordered it from their website. The acitivity is in the primary grades book. There is| an intermediate grades book as well, I don't know what's in that one. They have three entire units (seeds, matter- uses candy for materials, and dinosaurs) that teach all of the process skills: observing, communicating, classifying, measuring, predicting, inferring, defining operationally, formulating models, and investigating. The gobstopper activity is the observation one for the matter | | unit. It involves dropping a gobstopper in water, observing, and recording the changes, because... gobstoppers are made in layers and it will turn at least 4 colors until it get down to the sweet tart type center. I have used nearly all the acitivities in both the matter and dinosaur units and they are really well done. It does take some time to get through them. I will be using the dinosaurs this year.
