Don't give up on what you want. By Amy

You did make a mature decision if that was what you wanted. I too made a similar decision. I actually always wanted to be a teacher, but lacked the confidence in myself to pursue a degree just out of high school. I actually| gradutated with a Psychology degree first. In the mean time, I never gave up on wanting to teach or wanting to make a difference in the life of a child. After graduating, I worked as a teacher's aide with special ed. students. I did a lot of volunteering/ working with children and basically got as much experience as I could. It helped me to build on my interest and to really decide | | what I wanted to do with my future. Now I am back in school just about to start my second student teaching placement. I love the children and I love making a difference. Teaching isn't all about "playing" with the kids, but it is about making them happy and watching them learn things that you have taught them. It definately isn't an easy profession. Good teachers put a lot of work and time into what they do, so you really have to enjoy it to be happy. The rewards come when you see how much the children have gained from your input, then all of your hard work becomes so worth while! My advice to you, is to not give up on what you want. Take time to develop your interests. Sometimes gaining experience is the best thing to do. You need to get your feet wet some how, so get involved with children in other ways. You may in your journey discover or fall upon other interests and that is ok, too. Just be happy with you, and you will make the right choices!! Best of luck to you!!! From someone that understands! : )
