The Reponsive Classroom model/program is the best I've seen as far as offering team building ideas goes. They incorporate a "morning meeting" into the beginning of every day, which includes a greeting, sharing and then group activity. One of my favorites is "Fact or Fiction" ,where each child tells three things about themselves and the class then has to guess which one is fiction. The person who guesses correctly gets to be the next to share his or her facts. What I have found to be the single most effective way to build teamwork is to have "class meetings". I regularly bring the class together to discuss what we think is going well, not so well, our joys, sadnesses(loss of a family pet) ,etc. I also allow a few children to bring up issues that they would like a little help with and I then ask the kids to give one another feedback. I am always in awe of the thoughtful and sound advice children give to one another. These times of openly sharing with each other have brought my classes together in a way I couldn't ven have imagined. We get to know one another so well and on a much more personal level than if we just sat in our desks and learned together all day. Good luck !!!
