Sharing My "Oh, The Places 5th Grade Will Go"
    By JML

    Clip to ScrapBook
So I've spent a long time mulling over these ideas and a lot of time going through the archives and here's what I've come up with. I know that there are others doing this kind of theme so I thought I'd share and perhaps get improved ideas to what I have:

    Outside Welcome Bulletin Board:
"Oh, The Places 5th Grade Will Go!" decorated with hills and a winding road. The student names will be on license plates. On bigger license plates I'll have the core subjects and postage stamp border.

Inside HUGE bulletin board to display student work:
"On The Road To Learning" Another winding road and maybe a "Last Stop: MAP" exit sign (title of our state test) and a road border.

Another bulletin board to display student work:
"Soaring To Success" decorated with cloud border and hot air balloons.
I've also ordered 3-D hot air balloons to hang from the ceiling.

I have a daily boy and girl helper that will be titled Travel Agents. My hall passes and attendance area will be titled Departures/Arrivals.

They will write a letter to me but I will have it on the larger index cards made into postcards. They will then decorate the postcard to describe them.

We will have Passports that will have all the typical "Get To Know You" items along with other activities and pages will be left for tracking their reading throughout the year.

The portfolios will be manilla folders decorated to look like suitcases.

My Homeworkopoly is a work in progress...I've always re-created my own versions to match my theme. I'd love to find a smaller blank game board. I will have then a world map in the middle. The other spots to land on will be stickers of flags from around the world. The player pieces will probably be airplanes.

Travel (Moose) Binder will be Through Responsiblity and Vigor Everyone Learns!

I've got great banners and bulletin board toppers:
"Go Confidently In The Direction Of Your Dreams" (Road Signs)
"Learning Takes You Places" (famous landmarks)
Pictures of Famous U.S. Landmarks and Famous World Landmarks
Postcards from Around the World - great set that we'll look at when making our own postcards
I will also have an older style street sign that points in different directions with book titles.

Whew! That's about it. Any suggestions/critiques are MORE than welcome.
