Something that I have learned is to established some type of quiet signal in your class. My profesors always taught raising your hand as a wonderful quiet signal. Once you establish this signal in your class and use it consistantly, you will have no problem getting the student's attention. You might want to pick up the book Classroom Management by James Levin and James Nolan. (It is excellent!)
