Can your lesson be on anything for any grade? I am student teaching fifth grade. I did a lesson about standards of measurement and teaching the metric system. My set was to have three different students use their feet| to measure the room. I made sure that the students that I chose had significantly different size feet so that they would have different results. Then we started talking about the need for standards in measurement. Another lesson that I just did with my class was on lines of symmetry. My set was that I gave each student a coded message to figure out what it said. The message was coded | | by cutting the letters on their line of symmetry and only printing half of the letter. For the students to figure out the message, they would have to complete each letter. Then I asked them how they figured out the message and talked about how the letters were each divided on their line of symmetry. For perimeter, my set was to have the students count the ceiling tiles around the edge of the room. This will only work if you have square ceiling tiles because it would not be an accurate number if the tiles are rectangular. Then we talked about how perimeter is the outside measurement of an object. I hope these ideas help. Sorry they are all math ideas, but that is the only subject I am teaching so far. Next week I pick up reading, but I don't have sets for those lessons, just pre-reading ideas. Let me know if you need other ideas.
