Two things are resonating with me from your post.

I remember feeling that I would be viewed as unable to "control" if I sent kids to the office. Then I realized that my job was to help students learn that day and if one or two yahoos had to be removed to help the other twenty five learn, so be it. Those kids were probably not likely to participate too highly in the learning process anyhow(sounds mean, but you are only in there for the short term).

Secondly, I too tolerated a bit too much disrespect in the form of complaining (or "yelling"). If ignoring the behavior does not work, you should refer these kids to the principal. Chances are he/she will not be surprised to see them. It shows that you mean business without becoming mean as in my sub who recently called my kids all sorts of names, made kids do the work completely opposite of what I requested, etc.

The teacher must be informed of what happened. I always hated to leave notes that were negative because I felt that it showed badly of me (how naive). Now, I want to know what happened in my room. Maybe you will give the teacher some ideas to use to help her. Good luck in the future!
